Alcatraz Rebranding
Alcatraz Rebranding
For a school project, I had to rebrand a music festival. I had a few options, but of course, I went with the most “challenging” one: Alcatraz, a metal festival in Kortrijk, Belgium. Instead of the usual font-heavy, in-your-face metal style, I decided to take a different approach, because why not make things a little harder on myself?

I hand-drew the logo on some rough paper to nail that authentic, gritty texture. I also sketched a few shapes in the same style and made sure the main font matched that same raw, unpolished vibe.

My concept was to rebrand Alcatraz with a wink to the past but a bold leap forward. The metal scene has a very specific visual language, and changing that for such a dedicated audience is no easy task. It’s important to shake things up, but at the same time, you have to keep enough familiar elements so they don’t feel completely disconnected from what they know and love. It’s all about finding that balance between innovation and tradition.
